The motor came back , all fixed and ready to go back into the airplane…and I want to tell you about that. This particular motor is a Scorpion 4025-12 brushless outrunner from Innov8tive Designs. I used the Waco SRE “scale-out” project as my first opportunity to use a Scorpion motor/ESC system. Everythings performs as advertised, but it’s what happened when I bent something that is worth mentioning. As I explained in the last post, the motor came out the loser when I had to land on a bare axle, and the shaft was bent. My first thought was that I’d need a new motor…but…I checked with Lucien Miller at Innov8tive and he said no way, send the motor back to us. I got it back a couple of weeks later with a new shaft and all new bearings. It runs smooth as silk now. Nice surprise…the total price including shipping was only $35.98. Here’s the Scorpion 4025-12 repaired and back on the airplane. The mount is part of the custom glow-to-electric conversion I did on the ARF model, and the lead weight is a testament to how far electric power for model airplanes has come. The 6S 5300 mAh LiPo pack is TOO LIGHT and I had to add over a pound of weight to get the balance right. Think about that…
- We are READY TO GO! If you have been following this thread you’ll be pleased to hear that my two part in-depth article on the Sig Waco SRE ARF conversion will appear in upcoming issues of FLY RC Magazine. Watch for it.
