Electronic Flight

Bob,

I’m configuring a Guillow Pilatus for e-flight. What motor, esc, servo arrangement would you recommend? This model has a +/- 26′ wingspan, so it’s quite lightweight. Also, are taped hinges the best for this application?

Ed,

There’s a lot of stuff out there that would work, and I must admit that I’m not up to speed on all of it. My best guess for that Guillow’s Pilatus would be essentially the same as what I used in the Guillow’s Champ on the article; that is, one of the Spektrum ultra-micro ESC-receiver combos like the AS 6410L DSMX 6-channel and whichever of their various little linear servos will best fit into your model. The E-Flight BL 180 motor on 2S  that I put in the Champ should also work OK on your model. Of the various props on the market that fit this motor I would choose the largest diameter/lowest pitch.

I haven’t used taped hinges myself, but I can see no reason that they wouldn’t be OK for your airplane.
